Solo Cookout

Last night, i decided to have a fire in Dad's fire pit, and tried out his grate by cooking hot dogs and an ear of corn! He was out at Grandma Jo's, so Auree and I set to work alone gathering firewood from the yard and his wood scraps from the workshop. Many of the pieces were too long for the metal bin, and so it took a good half hour before we could set the grate down and start cooking! By then, the fire was nice and hot and my clothes smelled like smoke.

This is a photo of the dog and corn on the grill!
My finished dog!

The bugs weren't bad at all, and it wasn't until near sundown that the mosquitoes emerged and I had to hurry and get everything put away. It was a mad dash, running in the food supplies and quickly hosing off the fire pit before running inside myself! Earlier in the day, Auree and I had tried to lay on the dock, but the wind was too loud and spooky for him so that was short lived. I went down later and took these shots.

This last photo is a view from the pier looking up at Dad's house. In the water is an old, holey boat that was frozen in the ice all winter and now just lingers eerily on the lake's edge. You can see the chimney and part of the roof on Dad's house, but overall he has a pretty private location from the water.
